DMI Finance lends to young working Indians, and had a website but no app. In 2022 its first Android and iOS app was designed at Screenroot, in a dark theme the client asked for from day 1. Abhi Chatterjee was a senior UI designer at Screenroot, leading the UI team of 2 to 3 designers, with some UX work; a separate UX lead owned the flows. The design keeps the money on a light card so the numbers read like a bank statement, uses only red, amber and green for status, answers "how much is left, and when do I pay?" with 1 ring, 3 numbers and 2 buttons, gives each customer - no loan, prime member, active loan, past defaults - a home of their own, and turns a pre-approved loan into 3 steps: loan amount, KYC and e-mandate. Abhi took the design to about 75 to 80% before moving to his next role. The app is live today, with 1Cr+ downloads and a 4.0 rating on Google Play as of November 2026 - numbers that belong to the product and DMI Finance's teams, not to the design alone.
